'Being Human' Star Lenora Crichlow Wants 'Juno' Actress for Annie in US Version

Being Human actress Lenora Crichlow who plays ghost Annie on the hit BBC series has revealed who she would like to see play her role in the US remake being done by SyFy:

I think it's got be someone who's able to be quite funny accidentally. I think Ellen Page from "Juno" has a lovely way. I think she's very interesting to watch and I think she brings a real naturalism to her roles. I think she'd be brilliant.

Interesting casting idea but Montreal actress Meaghan Rath (18 to Life) pictured below has reportedly already been cast in the role of Annie.

SyFy's own version of Being Human has now entered production in Montreal with Sam Witwer (Smallville) as Vampire Aidan, Meaghan Rath as ghost Annie and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns, Fanboys) as werewolf Josh.

Comic-Con 2010: 'Being Human's Aidan Turner on the US Version and Season 3 Tidbits

Aidan Turner, who plays the very sexy (and quite tortured in season 2) vampire Mitchell on Being Human opened up about the American version of the series which is currently being made by SyFy channel with Sam Witwer as the vampire: 

"We think it's pretty cool. It's gonna be a very different show, I can imagine, cause they have money - we didn't have any of that, really. They have a budget.

But it'll be a different show, there'll be tons more episodes. It'll be a very different show but it's a huge testament to the brand that is Being Human and to Toby Whithouse and his amazing creative mind. There's no fear with us."

"And you guys know we exist," adds Russell Tovey, who plays werewolf George on the series.

The US version of the character will be named Josh. Only ghost Annie remains the same, as of now.

Turner also talked about his character's American counterpart and says that he's been given "a new sexy name as well, which is cool, he's gonna be called Aidan in the new series."

At that point pretty much everyone in the press room made jokes about the fact that the US version will have it's very own Aidan, which sort of made Turner blush a bit.

About Season 3 I got those few tidbits from the press room:

The characters will be more comfortable as to who they are. They've got each other now and being in a new place offers them a new fresh start.

Lenora Crichlow, who plays ghost Annie, explains that they have:

''A new start with the level of acceptance; you're not fighting the impossible anymore, things that you can't change.

They're all kinda: right, Ghost, yeah, vampire, and werewolf. We've got people that come in, and we share: George is a wolf and there is a kind of everyday-ness about that.''

However, our very special group do start season 3 in a place where they are in complete angst at having lost Annie (for those who have seen season 2, you will know what I mean).

Being Human Season 3 is currently still being filmed in Cardiff.

The series will air in early 2011, dates to be determined.

Sam Witwer Almost Passed on US Being Human!

Sam Witwer, who will play Vampire Aidan on SyFy's US version of the BBC's hit show Being Human - a show about a vampire, a werewolf and a ghost living together - admitted to Den of Geek that he almost passed on the role of the vampire because he basically thought the idea ridiculous:

"I nearly made a big mistake, and turned it down without really reading the script. And let's be honest, the pitch for that series sounds like a joke. ‘A vampire, a werewolf and a ghost walk into a bar...!' Like, what? What is this? So when I heard that, I really underestimated it, and was in the process of turning it down... I was writing the email to turn it down, when a buddy of mine, she IMs me, and says, ‘Don't you dare turn that down, have you read the script?', and I‘m like, ‘Errr, no?'

"So, eventually I sat down with the material. I watched the British series, and I felt extremely foolish, because the metaphoric storytelling is really effective in that show, and the scripts for the American version - as well as the British series - are just so damn good. It would have been a tremendous, tremendous mistake to have turned that down. . . This would have been painful, to see this series, and see what it was doing, and to know that I would have let it go."

"So, thankfully my friend talked some sense into me. I read the script, and felt very sheepish and stupid, and then met the producers and felt even more foolish, because they're so on point and intelligent and sharp. So, what this all boils down to is that I'm extremely, extremely enthusiastic to be performing that role."

Now let's hope the series will truly be as intelligent and touching as it's original British counterpart.

SyFy's Being Human is still in pre-production, and the other major roles have not been cast yet, though Meaghan Rath (The Assistants) and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns) are still rumoured to take on the roles of the ghost and the werewolf.

Recently, Mark Pellegrino (Lost, Supernatural) was cast in the role of Bishop, Aidan's dangerous mentor.

On an aside: who else thinks Vampire Aidan was actually named for Aidan Turner? Raise your hands!

Hot Casting News for US Version of Being Human

Seems like the American version of Being Human has found its vampire Aidan (it's Mitchell in the Original UK version). According to Ausiello, the vampire will be played by former Smallville super baddie Sam Witwer.

As well, actress Meaghan Rath (The Assistants) as signed on to play the role of ghost Molly (Annie). Not officially cast yet but believed to be in the running for the role of the werewolf Josh (George) is Sam Huntington (Superman Returns, Cavemen).

Being Human is about a vampire, a ghost and a werewolf living together and trying to blend in with the rest of the world. I hope the US version will work as well as the British original does.
