Halloween 3D gets a release date

There was a time when news of another Halloween film would have filled me with a dark kind of joy. Given that Halloween 3D is supposed to be a continuation of the story Rob Zombie ended in his Halloween 2 and will contain the component of three extra dollars, I'm less than jazzed.

Empireonline.com is reporting that the film is slated for an Oct. 28, 2012 release. No word yet on if director Patrick (My Bloody Valentine 3D and Drive Angry) Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer are still involved. The two were attached to the project a year or so ago but moved on to Drive Angry instead.

The plot, according to Lussier talking to MTV last year, picks up right after Zombie's Halloween 2 and strips the character back to his John Carpenter roots, whatever that means. And again, what's the point given Zombie's interpretation was finished.

This project stinks of pure greed on the part of the producers and studio, Dimension Films. I love the Halloween series, but feel Carpenter's and Zombie's stories have been told. Leave it alone.

But you know, if it does get made, I will be compelled to watch it like a moth drawn into the light.

About that Hellraiser remake . . .

Good news/bad news time on the Hellraiser remake front. Custom renders we dictate the bad news first so here it goes: it's still getting made. The good news is it will be rated R.

Back in October we reported that Dimension Films was moving ahead with a PG-13 Hellraiser remake, which is like adding insult to injury. If we're going to suffer a reboot of Clive Barker's classic, at least give us our blood. Maybe the folks over at Dimension read our blog, maybe not, but they've decided to do just that.

Director Patrick Lussier and screenwriter Todd Farmer, who partnered on the great My Blood Valentine 3D and the upcoming Drive Angry 3D, are on the project. This news also holds promise, although it means there's a good chance the Hellraiser project will be in the third dimension. Snore!

Once again, stop with the remakes! Just sto . . . Fuck  it. You don't listen anyways, Hollywood.

Trailer Alert: Drive Angry 3D

Two Nicolas Cage-related stories in one week? Shawn's going to explode. But maybe not when he sees this trailer for the new grindhouse-style action/horror movie from director Patrick Lussier, who made the great My Bloody Valentine 3D.

Now there are some who are sick of 3D and will find the preview borderline cheesy, almost campy even. I agree completely. But we here in The Basement don't mind cheese and camp if done right, and we love us our ultraviolence.

As for 3D, yup. We're sick of it. But Lussier used the technology to great effect in MBV3D, so I'm willing to give him a break this time around.

Oh, and Amber Heard is in this. Yum!

The film is due out early next year. Give the trailer a view and share your thoughts.
