Micro Review: Battle Los Angeles

A mantastic piece of film entertainment that is one part gritty war film and another part slick alien invasion flick. Think Saving Private Ryan meets Independence Day and you've kinda got the right idea. Aaron Eckhart provides a solid anchor as the marine staff sergeant charged with helping fight off the otherworldly invaders. But the real stars are the action scenes and way cool space aliens. The film is thin on story and character, but that's not the point here. This is one prolonged and brilliant combat sequence, and it's a great ride. One worth taking several times. A Good for Battle Los Angeles.

Shawn and I look forward to the upcoming sci-fi/war epic Battle: Los Angeles with dread and excitement. Dread because we've been sucker punched by cool trailers for shitty movies more times than we can count. Excitement because we hope hope HOPE Battle: Los Angeles will deliver the goods.

The alien invasion flick certainly has promise with its gritty look, combat theme and a great lead actor in Aaron Eckhart. The previews and posters promise big, cool, scary things and the clip below offers more of the same.

But why waste time talking about it. Check out the video below and judge for yourselves. All I know is I'm even more excited for March 11.

Latest Battle: Los Angeles trailer ups the awesome

A trailer's job is to sell a movie to a mass audience and, more often than not, they do too good a job. Shawn, Anthony Michael Bosa and I have lost track of the number of times we've been sucker punched by movie marketing, which means you'd think we'd have learned our lesson by now.

But every trailer that appears for the upcoming sci-fi action movie Battle: Los Angeles makes the film look better and better. The latest, embedded below thanks to Yahoo Movies, is the coolest by far. Not only does it offer more action and effects, but it plays up the story's focus, which is on the military response to the threat.

All of us in The Basement were let down by the fact that Skyline focused on boring rich kids. At the very least, director Jonathan Liebesman's effort has got the character angle right. If you're going to make an alien invasion flick, give us the action!

To say we're jazzed for this film is an understatement. But we'll have to wait until March 11 to know if the final product is worth the hype. Until then, watch the preview and sound off, soldier!
