Redundant yes, but response to the bootleg copy of David Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake preview was so positive that it would be heartless for us not to post the crisp, official version for your eye holes. Without further adieu . . .

Trailer Alert: Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

It pains me to say it, but this camcorder bootleg of David Fincher's Girl With the Dragon Tattoo remake trailer has me sold. I'm not saying I'm going to like the movie, but I will now see it.

I love the original trilogy. Shawn hates them. Both of us see these U.S. remakes as unnecessary for the same reason: love the originals or not, they got the job done. But man, it looks like Fincher worked his magic here, and how can one not resist watching a film that sells itself as the feel bad movie of Christmas?

Bond back in 2012

MGM's financial problems have put Bond's, James Bond's, latest adventure on the backburner for years. The films usually follow a release pattern of every two years, meaning another installment was due this fall. Alas, no dice.

Now Deadline is reporting that production is slowly moving forward on 007's latest and the film is scheduled for release in November 2012, provided the Mayan apocalypse doesn't get us all first.

Daniel Craig, arguably the best Bond since Connery, Sean Connery, is back. As is director Sam Mendes, who was scheduled to take the helm before all this financial crap got in the way a couple of years back.

No word yet on the plot or villain, but there's still lots of time for that to come together.

Cowboys & Aliens and Green Lantern trailers hit the web

Guess which one looks horrible and which one doesn't?

Kudos to regular contributor Patrick Eakin for already posting these on the Facebook group page, but I just had to chime in with my own 69 cents! First up, the suck: Green Lantern!

I grew up loving the Green Lantern comic, but have always believed a successful film version could be a dicey prospect. This preview proves why.

The CGI costume has to go and the otherworldly settings just look too . . . fake. I dig Ryan Reynolds as an actor, but I don't think he's brought the right tone to this. Everything here screams kids' movie, which is maybe what Warner Bros. had in mind. Not for me. Judge for yourself by the trailer below.



Now the cool: Cowboys & Aliens. Directed by Iron Man's Jon Favreau (great choice) and starring none other than Daniel "My name is Bond, James Bond" Craig and the legendary Harrison Ford, this looks just awesome. One part Unforgiven, another part War of the Worlds. Throw in Steven Spielberg as an executive producer. Sold! But again, judge the trailer for yourself.



Both films hit theatres next summer.

David Fincher Finds His Girl With the Dragon Tattoo

Sony Pictures announced today that Rooney Mara of the recent Nightmare On Elm Street remake will star alongside Daniel Craig in the Hollywood version of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. She will play the film's lead, computer hacker Lisbeth Salander.

Duh.

Reports also suggest Mara is signed on for film versions of all three books in the trilogy, including The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest, provided the North American films prove as popular as the Swedish ones of the same name.

Mara is no stranger to Fincher, having filmed a role in his upcoming Facebook drama The Social Network. While some have complained Mara's performance in Elm Street was too wooden (don't know, haven't seen it yet) one must have faith that Fincher tends to bring out the best in actors.
