Face the music!

The old baby grand piano left the house some time back. Now when we want music for a party or a family evening, we gather around the TV and video game machines. Here are some new music-based programs that will get everyone into the act.
Rock Band 2 from MTV Games arrived a few weeks ago with new wireless guitars, an improved drum set and more than 100 songs either on the disc or available to download. The list includes classics from Blondie and the Who and even one from Bob Dylan. The game is available in versions for the Xbox 360, Wii, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2. It costs about $190 with instruments or $50-$60 without.

And then there's Boogie SuperStar, a sing-along (and dance-along) game aimed at the Hannah Montana wannabe market. The $60 package includes a microphone and 40 tracks of songs from Hilary Duff, Avril Lavigne, Katy Perry and Britney Spears. Players create an on-screen character, give her cool clothes and hair, then work out a song-and-dance routine. The Wii captures both the vocals and the dance moves, and a panel of judges scores the performance.
