The final, and best, Captain America trailer arrives

And it's a chill-inducing, smile-creating gem. More action. More Hugo Weaving. More Tommy Lee Jones. More Howling Commandos. More music by Tool.

This is going to be THE summer movie to see in my opinion. A period comic book adventure that, as far as this trailer is concerned, has the heart and tone of an old-school action picture. Think Raiders of the Lost Ark with a super hero. Sold!

But why not watch the trailer for yourselves and sound off!

The first full trailer for Captain America

Wow! Just watched the trailer for Captain America and, aside from some poor video quality with the embed and having to tolerate the Entertainment Tonight promo at the end, it rocks!!

For one, they've captured the look and tone of the original Captain America comic plus his more recent incarnation in Marvel's Ultimates universe. Second, Chris Evans owns the role. I don't know how they made him go from scrawny little runt to kick-ass soldier guy, but they pulled it off. And Hugo Weaving as the Red Skull? Hell yes!

There's few mainstream releases this year I have to see. Captain America is one of them. Super 8 and Sucker Punch are also on the list!

Watch the trailer and judge for yourself. And leave a comment, soldier!

Captain America hits theatres in July.

Witness the first Avenger

Those of you who were lucky enough to catch the Super Bowl (damn you localized snowstorm!) on Sunday also caught a glimpse of the Big Game teaser for the Captain America movie.

I didn't get to watch the preview until late yesterday and was blown away by the footage. It has an old-school vibe befitting the World War 2 era and appears to have captured the feel of the original Captain America comics. I like how Chris Evans comes across both pre-super serum and after. It's great to see The Howling Commandos make an appearance and who doesn't dig the brief glimpse we get of The Red Skull?

Naturally, we must hold our excitement in check pending the film's release this summer. But my anticipation level has ramped up considerably for Captain America. The movie is due out July 22.

A good look at The First Avenger in action

Empire magazine has scored a bunch of pics from the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger and we've decided to be lazy and post one of them here. Hey, it's the web. We can do that.

I'm actually looking forward to this flick and think Chris Evans is the perfect choice for Cap. He's a good actor, he looks all American and the costume suits him. Any doubts? Look below. The film is also set during World War 2, which is tres cool.

Directed by Joe Johnston, the action adventure also stars Hayley Atwell and Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull. It hits theatres July 22.

Toby Jones in Talks to Play New Villain in Captain America!

British actor Toby Jones, best known for his portrayal of Truman Capote in Infamous,  is apparently in final negotiations to play a villain, an evil scientist named Arnim Zola in Captain America: The First Avenger.

HeatVision Blog reports that:

Jones is in final negotiations to portray a villainous scientist named Arnim Zola in the production, which already has Hugo Weaving as another bad guy, the Red Skull. The movie shoots this summer in England.

In comics lore, Zola was a genetic engineer who created clones and various monstrosities for Hitler. He also captured his own mental self, inserting it into a robot, and survived the war.

Joe Johnston is directing the World War II-set movie, which sees Chris Evans as the famed superhero. Sebastian Stan is playing sidekick Bucky Barnes, while Hayley Atwell is the hero’s love interest, Peggy Carter. [Heat Vision]

Zola must be one of the strangest characters of the Marvel Pantheon I've ever seen, and I wonder how they will pull it off. My guess is that the Arnim Zola we'll see in Captain America will be before he transfers his consiousness into a robot.

Aftor Hugo Weaving for the Red Skull, I think Toby Jones would be another great casting coup.

Do you also believe Jones would be a great addition to Captain America: The First Avenger?

Hugo Weaving Will Be The Red Skull

How cool is that!?!

Today, Marvel Studios is confirming that the actor will definitely be playing the villain opposite Chris Evans as Captain America. Rumour has it the movie takes place during the Second World War, so expect Weaving's Skull to have lots of Nazis at his disposal.

Weaving is the perfect choice for the role. He, along with Alan Rickman of Die Hard fame, is one of the best villainous actors in the business.

I'm more and more excited for this movie as news begins to leak out. Evans should be a great Cap (he was awesome in The Losers)and Marvel has been producing some pretty decent adaptations of their characters of late, Ghost Rider aside.

Official: Hugo Weaving is Captain America's Red Skull!

Though it was rumoured for a long time, Marvel has now confirmed that Hugo Weaving will be playing Red Skull, the villain in the upcoming Captain America: The First Avenger movie.

Marvel Studios announced today that Hugo Weaving has been cast to star as Johann Schmidt aka the Red Skull in the studio's highly anticipated movie "Captain America: The First Avenger" opposite Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell. In the early comics, Johann Schmidt was drafted into loyal service of The Third Reich and renamed "The Red Skull." The character will be updated for the feature adaptation. Joe Johnston will direct the film penned by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely.

Hugo Weaving is no stranger to playing bad guys (he was extraordinary as agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy, and was the voice of the villainous Megatron in the Transformers movies). But he's also played his share of heroes (The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, V For Vendetta). His addition to the cast certainly makes Captain America even more exciting!

Captain America is set to be released 22 July 2011

Captain America's Love Found! British Actress Cast

Seems like the search for Captain America's love, Peggy Carter, has ended. Little known (on this side of the pond at least) British actress Hayley Atwell has apparently won the coveted role. The news has been reported by The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision.

The character Atwell will play is named Peggy Carter, who in comics lore not only dated Captain America but was an agent helping the French Resistance. She later became the aunt of Sharon Carter, Captain America’s love in modern times.

Seems Atwell won the role last week after her screen test in London. Other actresses that were considered for the role of Peggy Carter were Keira Knightley and Emily Blunt.

Hayley Atwell would be better known in the US for her role of Bess Foster in the movie The Duchess. She played the Duke's (Ralph Fiennes) mistress.

Atwell is a good actress so I'm hoping the role will suit her or vice-versa and I really, really hope that she and Chris Evans will have good chemistry.

Chris Evans IS Officially Captain America!!

After months of speculations and searches, it seems that the studios have settled their caps at Chris Evans to play the role of Captain America in the upcoming movie The First Avenger: Captain America

It had already been reported last friday that the role had been offered to the actor but that he had previous movie commitments that stopped him from accepting the role right away.

It now seems that things moved swiftly over the weekend and that all that remains is signing the deal.

Chris is no stranger to the role of Marvel superhero since he played Johnny Storm, A.K.A the Human Torch in the two Fantastic Four movies.

Though I had hoped to either see Supernatural's Jensen Ackles or Chuck's own Captain Awesome, actor Ryan McPartlin, in the role of Steve Rogers, I am perfectly comfortable with the idea of seeing Evans play The First Avenger. As of now Marvel Studios has not let us down.

What do you guys think of that casting decision? Is Chris Evans fit to wield ol' Captain's Shield?
