Henry Cavill is Superman. Henry who!?!

The Internet has been surprisingly quiet today about the news that British actor Henry Cavill, 27, has been cast in Zack Snyder's take on Superman.

But get this, Cavill was actually in the running for the role of Clark Kent/Superman in 2005's Superman Returns before Brandon Routh got the part. And where is Routh now? Nowhere. That's where. Meanwhile, Cavill went on to appear in The Tudors and the movie Hellraiser: Hellworld. Take that, Routh.

In a statement, Snyder, who directed Watchmen, 300 and the upcoming Sucker Punch, said “In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honoured to be a part of his return to the big screen.” He added that Cavill is “the perfect choice to don the cape and S shield.”

Who am I to argue? I have nothing invested in Superman as a character. Shawn's the huge Superman nut, so it will be interesting to hear what he thinks. I'm more curious about who they cast as Lois Lane . . . because Lois Lane is supposed to be hot.

Snyder's Superman is due out . . . I have no idea.

Flowers

Good Morning!

Took some time last night to play with fabric.  There are so many things I want to do and so little time.  I learned how to make flowers and and am now trying to figure out what to put them on.

I made a pillow for our bed.

The flowers are so easy to make and it takes about ten minutes.

I am trying to come up with some other ideas for them.  Any suggestions?

Keep Your Enemies Closer

Don’t get me wrong….I am grateful for the award bestowed upon me by Melynda over at Mom's Sunday Cafe. Melynda’s blog is lot of fun. My favorite posts of hers are her “What I am Not Eating Wednesdays.” You seriously need to go check those out. The recipes are hideous and some of them will stick in my head forever. Like the Jellied Meat Ring made with Bologna and lemon Jello.
I have no idea what I have done to deserve this award, but I accept it with grace. YOU LIKE ME! YOU REALLY LIKE ME!

That said, there are rules to follow in order for me to accept this award and this is why I should have been watching Melynda more closely. I should not have turned my back on her. For I really want this award. Almost as much as I want those new boots from DSW, so I must follow the rules. I’m not a rule follower by nature.

My work begins. Here is what I must do before I am allowed to accept it. (I’m seriously considering just grabbing the thing and running out the back door before anyone can see me).

* Post linking back to the person that gave you the award.

* Share 7 random things about yourself.

* Award 15 recently discovered bloggers.

* Drop them a note, and tell them about it!

And away we go. Seven Random things about me.

1) When my daughter was 14 I allowed her to hang a poster of a half-naked Johnny Depp on her bedroom wall because I was too embarrassed to hang it in my room.

2) I learned how to pee standing up like a boy on a camping trip three years ago. And no, I will not be posting about that.

3) I let my dog use my husband’s pillow to lay her head on when my husband is at work and then I flip it over before he comes to bed.

4) I have the same pink nail polish on my toes from a pedicure that I got 5 months ago. It’s grown out so much that it now looks like I have a French pedicure.

5) I’ve been known to fake depression just to get attention.

6) My daughter wants a teacup pig and I told her that’s just silly but I’m secretly hoping she gets one and will name him Fergus.

7) When I was six years old I had a crush on Gene Autry.

That was painful.

The really hard part is deciding who the recently discovered blogger award recipients should be. Melynda used some of my favorites. I would really love to name Melynda again so she has to tell us more random stuff about herself.

1) Erica over at Why Yes, I Should Be Doing Something Else!  Erica is a card maker, a jewelry maker and a mom. I found Erica’s blog by doing a Google search for craft rooms. Hers knocked me out.
Check it Out here.

2)  Cindy over at It's a Chick Thing.  I know Cindy in real life.  I love her, she is my twin.  She shares my love of all things vintage.   She quilts and hikes and decorates like I wish I could.

3)  Ella at Lifeologia.  Ella is just a sweet, sweet person who leaves the nicest comments.  She's a graphic designer and an amazing photographer.  She never says anything mean about my horrible photography skillz.  The pictures of her gorgeous daughter always make me smile.

4)  Tammy at Pink is Not My Favorite Color.  Tammy is my cousin, daughter, niece, something.  Somehow we are kind of related.  She is a wife and the mommy to two adorable children.  She makes adorable little tutu's for her daughter and I love trying out her recipes.  Go visit her blog and tell her that her Aunt Holly says hi.

5)  Val at The Victorians Didn't Even Like Pink.  I wrote a post about Val a few days ago.  I was the winner in one of her giveaways.  Val is awesome and I love her sense of style although I am slightly jealous that she can pull off wearing some seriously fantastic hats that I only dream about.

6)  Dawn at My Two Sons.  Dawn is a stay at home mom of two lively and adorable little boys.  You have got to check out the picture on her January 28th post.  How is that for adorable?  I love her budgeting and Menu plans on Mondays.

7)  Jessica at How About Orange.  I have never been a fan of orange until I found her.  Now I realize that orange is my happy color.  Do you remember the paper birds that I made the other day when I was supposed to be working and I almost got fired?  I found them here at her site.  I dare you to look at her blog and not be happy.  It's impossible.  Orange Rocks!

8)  Ashley at A Forty Year Old Ranch.  Ashley and her husband bought a 40 year old ranch and have been doing some amazing things there.  She loves vintage and is so crafty.  Just check out her master bathroom redo.

9)  My Mink Betty. This is a fun blog about thrift store and vintage finds.  She once found a mink with the name "Betty" written on the label.  Hence, the blog name.  If you like Pyrex, you will love this cute little blog.

10)  Taylor at The Lumberjack's wife.  I'm almost afraid to write this one because Taylor is the one I have voted the most likely to retaliate.  I feel she is like the blog mafia and "knows" people who might come to get me.   She's very busy homeschooling her children in the middle of nowhere with crazy men knocking at her door and she may be wee very angry for having to do all the work in order to accept her award.  However, I have decided it's worth it because I just couldn't leave her out.  I laugh out loud everyday at her random posts.  Her life is nuts.  She makes me feel sane.  I love her for that.

11)  Kris at Simplify.  This will come as no surprise to anyone who reads my blog.  I talk about her a lot and steal borrow her recipes.  I love this girl, she's my soul sister.  She's a wonderful cook, grandmother and she is so crafty.  I would love for you to check out her Etsy store.

12)   Sweet Mary at Corners of My Life.  We were possibly separated at birth.  We share the love of family, sewing, making our own laundry soap and cooking.  Go check her out and see how cute her new grandson is.

13)  Jenny at Taking Two.  Her story fills my heart with a warm gooey caramel type substance.  You have got to read her story about the adoption of her two absolutely precious twin boys.   Stock up on Kleenex first.  Jenny is my newest find in the blog world and I just love her so much already.  I want to be her real life friend and I want to cuddle with those babies!

14)  Yanet at Three Sun Kissed Boys.  There are many reason that I enjoy reading this blog but I love Yanet because she is a dumpster diver.  How could you not love that?   You need to go over and check out her home tour and see the man cave.  However, if you are married, don't let your husband see this page.  You'll never hear the end of it.

15)  Lissa at Humble Pie.  I must admit that this is not a new blog find for me.  I've been following her for some time but I wanted to get her in here because I love, love, love her.   I want to be her when I grow up (even though she's years younger than I am).  Her home is gorgeous, her kids are gorgeouser.  Yes, I said that.  She's real.  I think that's the very best thing anyone can say about a fellow blogger.

Well, that's 15.  You have no idea how hard it is to pick out only 15 bloggers when you spend your days blog surfing and find wonderful new things every day.   These were not written in order of importance.  I love and respect each and every one of you.  I appreciate every single post you offer and every comment you've ever given.

I'm tired now.  This was a very long blog post.  I love you Melynda and thanks again for the award and for helping me navigate through this crazy blogging business (I didn't know how to put the button on my sidebar).  I'm dumb like that.  I appreciate it but I will also find a way to get you back.

Jason and Shawn review: The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest and Frozen

The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest

Jason: Wow this is a lot of movie! This is a fitting finale to a fine trilogy that ups the ante in terms of suspense and even action. There's some great edge-of-your-seat moments and nice character touches. Best of all events from the last two movies really pay off here. Everyone gets what's coming to them and there's even a surprise or two. Fans of the series will love it. Those who are new to the material will be completely lost. I'm giving it a Good, and will be buying the trilogy now that it's complete.

Shawn: This being the third installment it was by far the best one. I still found all the characters shallow, weak, and didn’t have ANY attachment to them whatsoever. Except for the supervillian. They could have played that up a lot more. It ties every other boring entry up nicely without much confusion. It is a well made series, but still sucked in my opinion. I am, however, willing to give this one a high ugly, but it's still and Ugly. I am happy to be done with this series.

Frozen

Jason: Fuck this movie! A trio of boring, spoiled twenty somethings put themselves in a situation where they get exactly what they deserve. 'Nuff said! In fact it's this trio of unlikable, and ultimately dumb, characters that sink would could have been a decent thriller. There are a couple of cringe inducing moments but not enough that I'd ever want to watch it again. Writer/director Adam Green should stick to making fun slasher movies. An Ugly from me on this.

Shawn: Dramatic high point: girl pees on ski lift and loses her dignity. I don’t know, I just didn’t like the movie. The actors were fine, but the movie wasn’t really worth the hour and a half, save for a little gore and wolves eating people. Let me stress LITTLE. I’m not really sure how they could have made this movie exciting. Shawn Ashmore was great though. An Ugly on this one too.

Next on the chopping block: The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest and Frozen

Shawn will break out the whiskey and shot glasses tonight as he celebrates the final review Film Reviews From the Basement will do in the Millennium Trilogy as the executioner's axe falls on The Girl Who Kicked The Hornets' Nest.

The first two films, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and The Girl Who Played With Fire, are his most hated of all time, which doesn't bode well for Hornets' Nest. He gave each an Ugly. What will he give the last film in the series? Stick with us!

Note: Jason will review the movie too. He gave the previous two a Good.

Then the Basement Dwellers set their collective sites on Adam Green's Frozen. Jason and Shawn dug the writer/director's slasher film Hatchet, but this movie's about three people trapped on a ski lift. Is Frozen the next Buried? Tune in tonight and find out.

And stay tuned in for a lengthy discussion on remakes, complete with audio clips of course, the latest movie news and music by Subplot A, The Sleeveless Tease and other under-the-radar talent.

The thrills begin at 10 p.m. PST on 92.5FM CFBX Kamloops and www.thex.ca. Don't miss it!

And now some previews:

Kristen Stewart scares her co-stars

Kristen als Schneewittchen?!

Hollywoodreporter: "The Twilight star is on the list for the role of Snow White in Universal’s Snow White and the Huntsman.
The movie, being directed by Rupert Sanders, is in deep casting mode, with Viggo Mortensen entering negotiations to play the Huntsman earlier Wednesday. Charlize Theron is in negotiations to play the evil queen.
Stewart is a name that Universal has kept coming back to since acquiring the project even as it went through a series of screen tests with actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones and Alicia Vikander. Emily Browning tested this past weekend (Stewart has reached a point in her career where testing isn't required).
Stewart, arguably one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to the Twilight movies, has focused on indie projects in between the vampire romancers, and this could become her first studio project since becoming a name. It also would put her in the shoes of an iconic character.
The Gersh-repped actress is currently shooting the Breaking Dawn movies, but the Snow White team has been making repeated overtures even as late as last week. "

-----
Deadline: "With word circulating that Viggo Mortensen is in talks to play one of the title characters in the Rupert Sanders-directed Snow White and the Huntsman for Universal Pictures, will Twilight Saga's Kristen Stewart end up with playing Snow White? Though the studio has been testing young actresses and no one is set, there are persistent rumors that Stewart looms large as a potential lead. Mortensen surfaces in the lead of that movie in a role that had been rumored for Michael Fassbender. But Fassbender never had an offer and he committed to the Ridley Scott-directed Prometheus with Noomi Rapace and Charlize Theron. Ironically, Theron is also starring in Huntsmen as the Evil Queen. Stewart is repped by Gersh. Stay tuned..."
-----

Celebs.gather:"Several young actresses are being tested for Rupert Sanders' "Snow White and the Huntsman," in which IMDB says that the huntsman doesn't just let her go but instead becomes her mentor and protector while helping her escape from the evil queen. It sounds like this will be a darker version of the original classic.
Kristen Stewart of "Twilight" fame tops the list of actresses up for the role. Production originally wanted to go with a fresh face; and, so far, the contenders are Felicity Jones, Swedish actress Alicia Vikander and Australian actress Bella Heathcote.
Charlize Theron is cast to play the evil queen, and there is talk about Viggo Mortensen playing the huntsman.
Kristen Stewart is one of America's sweethearts, and her look is perfect for a part in a dark, creepy fairy tale. Who better to portray naivete and innocence yet with a mysterious edge?
Viewers will just have to wait and see, but rumor has it that teenage masses are rooting for Kristen.

-----
Moviefone: "Universal has conducted screen tests with actresses such as Riley Keough, Felicity Jones, Alicia Vikander and Emily Browning, the studio has its heart set on Stewart (with no screen test required).....The film will begin shooting this summer with a Dec. 21, 2012, release date"

-----
Screenrant: "Stewart’s casting in this retelling of The Brothers Grimm story would mark her first major studio lead role outside of the Twilight franchise since it began and a departure from her less-mainstream indie fare as of late. Snow White and the Huntsman is one of three different Snow White movies in development"
-----
Empire: "...they’ve been testing various talents, but Universal is apparently to either secure the talents of a draw like Kristen Stewart or track down an unknown..they’ll have to find someone before summer, as the aim is to have the movie shooting then for a December 2012 release"

Make-up like Kristen

Makeup
To go with her pink dress, Kristen was given a soft smoky eye, pink cheeks and soft lips.

1. Start out by evening out your skin with a foundation. Apply concealer as needed.

2. Fill in the eyebrows with a pencil. Apply a shimmery light gray/taupe color (try NARS Ashes To Ashes Eyeshadow) on the eyelid. Blend a soft brown eyeshadow onto the crease to add depth to the eyes. Run a black eyeliner around the eyes and top with several coats of black mascara on both top and bottom.
3. To get Kristen’s rosy flush, apply a soft pink blush like MAC Mineralize Blush in Dainty on the apples of the cheeks.

4. Finish with a frosty pink lipstick like MAC Angel.

Hair
Frederic Fekkai stylist Adir Abergel gave Kristen Stewart a 50s inspired rocker chic pompadour.
1. Start by spraying wet hair with hair spray, focusing on the roots. Blow-dry with hands for a tousled effect.

2. Using an one-inch curling iron, barrel curl two-inch sections from the top of the hair, pinning it in place starting at the hairline all the way to the crown. Lightly wave the hair that was not in pin curls, and leave it down.

3. Take the pin curls out and backcomb the roots for the pompadour effect. To keep the backcombing in place, spray Fekkai Coiff Sheer Hold Hairspray ($10) at the roots, and use a paddle brush to smooth the top of the hair into place.

4. To complete the look, applying Fekkai Coiff Nonchalant Piecing & Forming Wax ($23) to the ends of the hair to create some separation, and spray on more hairspray to lock in the style.

“Kristen had just changed her hair color, and I knew it was going to be a really amazing red carpet moment and be photographed to death so I wanted to make sure she looked cool, chic, and beautiful. Adir Abergel her hairstylist did a beautiful loose and messy braided up-do which complimented her at the time newly strawberry blonde hair color (courtesy of Marie Robinson, the UBER talented NY colorist), this made Kristen’s naturally beautiful complexion look even more peaches and creme and made her look a bit younger and more innocent. I decided to play against that by applying dark black and cranberry shadows to her eyes to create drama and depth and enhance the green in her eyes” said Beau.

Here is a how to step by step to get the eyes:

1. Start by applying NARS Pro Prime Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base on the the entire lid up to the brow bone and allow to dry for a full minute before applying shadows.

2. Apply a thin coat of loose powder on the entire eye area to make sure shadow blends nicely and doesn’t grab in any spots.

3. Using the Beauté Blender Brush, sweep a medium-dark gray like NARS Paris Duo Eyeshadow (the right side) into the crease of the eye and blend well.

4. Using the Beauté Smudge Brush, apply a bit of NARS Zardoz Cream Eyeshadow to the lashline and then blend the black upwards towards the gray with your finger.

5. Using the Beauté Blender or Flat Shadow Brush, apply NARS Pandora Duo Eyeshadow (right side) to the outer 1/3 of the eye and blend with the Blender Brush up and into the gray until it looks totally seamless.

6. Apply a mix of the black and gray shadows using the Smudge Brush under the eye, making sure to blend well.

7. Using the Small Flat Shadow Brush, apply MAC Cranberry Eyeshadow to the inner 2/3 of the eye blending well with the black.

8. Curl lashes and apply Chanel Inimitable Mascara.

9. Apply MAC Feline Eye Khol to the inner rims of the eye.

1. Start with Eye Shadow #127 (metallic taupe). Cover the entire eye lid with shadow so that there are no hard edges, making sure to blend out the color extremely well.

2. Using Aqua Eyes #0L (black), apply a very generous amount of eyeliner under the eye on the lower lid, then rim the top lid as close to lash line as possible.

3. Using a smudging brush, smudge the liner on the top and bottom of the eye. Robin’s tip: the secret to a great rock and roll smoky eye is all about the smudge – it doesn’t have to be uniform or neat. Once you’re done smudging, go back and re-apply a heavier coat of eyeliner along the lash line. Then, remove any excess shadow that may have fallen using a sponge.

4. Apply Eye Shadow #139 (iridescent brown black), a darker brown than the color used on the base of the lid, and smudge it over the black liner that was smudged out earlier on both the top and bottom lids.

5. Use a lash curler to lift all the lashes and prep them for applying mascara.

6. To complete the ultimate smoky eye, apply Smoky Lash first to the tops of the lashes, and then follow through scissoring up to create volume and separation.

Wem steht's besser?

I Am So Fired.

I was supposed to clean the house yesterday.  I didn't feel like doing that.

I have a meeting at the office later this morning.  I was informed last week that we are seriously under budget and I am going to make a presentation today.  I was supposed to take the past week and do some research and find out the cause for this problem and present it to the physicians and the Chief Financial Officer this morning.  I probably should have done that.  I didn't feel like doing that either.

I did, however, do this:
Look at these cute little paper birdies.  I found them at 3 eyed bear.  You just print them out, fold and glue.
No!  That's not all I did.
I did this too.

Printable gift boxes, just print onto cardstock and glue.  Found it here.
Also made some new cards:

I wonder which bird the CFO would like.

Christian Bale close to being King's Gunslinger

It was first reported that Javier Bardem and Viggo Mortensen were director Ron Howard's top choices for the role of Roland in the big-screen adaptation of Stephen King's Dark Tower series.

But word broke across the web today that Batman himself, Christian Bale, has become the front runner.

The guys over at JoBlo report it was Bale's Golden Globe win for The Fighter that pushed him to the top. The announcement is a shock given I don't remember Bale even being in the running.

Of the three, he's my top choice. Bale's a great actor and can play moody really well. He also looks kinda like Clint Eastwood, who King obviously modeled Roland on.

The Dark Tower hits theatres in May 2013.

She doesn't like Frank Lloyd Wright

Let me first say, I do not have permission to use these photos.  I stole them.
This is Val.  Isn't she just the cutest?

I love the name of her blog.

Val has a love for historic homes, vintage hats, and basically anything old which is why I think she likes me.  You do like me don't you, Val?  She doesn't like Frank Lloyd Wright but then, who really does?

A little while ago, Val hosted a giveaway and I was one of the winners.  Dontcha just love that?

I was so excited to see her package in the mailbox this morning.

Here's what was inside:

How cute is this handmade tote bag?  It's perfect for my trips to the library.
Not only that, she filled the bag full of goodies.  I was so surprised to see that she also sent me:

Three yards of gorgeous fabric and two apron patterns.  Now does this girl know me or what???  I love the fabric, the colors are so pretty and I can't wait to create something with it and to try out these patterns.  She also knew that I enjoyed making cards so she also filled my bag with scrapbook paper.  The really good stuff.  Valentines patterns.
What a doll!
Thanks so so very much Val .
I love ya!

BD Dreh Update

"I just love the way Mackenzie lights up the room. If it’s been a long day and everyone’s tired, she shows up and you can tell the atmosphere changes. The fam scenes with Robert and Kristen will look amazing on screen. They have a special connection, you know. She looks so much like them and they enjoy working with her, so that makes it easy. They love joking around between takes. Specially with Robert, he loves using the ‘daughter’ thingy. I’ve heard he’s been teaching Mackenzie some words, with the accent and everything, so funny. Kristen has found someone to share her ‘Miley Cyrus’ obsession with. And they both love pets, so they have a lot to talk about. Cuteness everywhere. But everybody loves her, she’s pretty smart for her age. It’s good to have a kiddo on set."
