Wanna watch some clips from Scream 4?

Being burned out by a movie before it even hits theatres is the norm these days, with studios releasing posters, stills, and clips from an upcoming movie months before it hits cinemas in an effort to generate hype and a big opening weekend at the box office.

We here in The Basement are happy to join our Internet brethren and continue that trend with Scream 4, which hits theatres April 15. Below are two clips from the film, neither of which reveal too much about the plot, making them safe for pre-screening consumption.

The clips aren't bad. The tone of the first three films is alive and well as is the sense of humour. This is something I want to see eventually, be it on initial release or at home. But enough chatter, watch and enjoy.

Once again, Scream 4 is directed by Wes Craven and stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere, Britt Robertson,  and Emma Roberts

As for the plot: “Sidney Prescott (Neve Campbell), now the author of a self-help book, returns home to Woodsboro on the last stop of her book tour. There she reconnects with Sheriff Dewey (David Arquette) and Gale (Courteney Cox), who are now married, as well as her cousin Jill (Emma Roberts) and her Aunt Kate (Mary McDonnell). Unfortunately Sidney’s appearance also brings about the return of Ghostface, putting Sidney, Gale, and Dewey, along with Jill, her friends, and the whole town of Woodsboro in danger.”

Micro Review: My Soul To Take

A total misfire from beginning to end. A colossal disappointment from writer/director Wes Craven, who tries hard to create another Nightmare On Elm Street, but misses the mark by a long shot. The film does offer some okay gore, but the story makes no sense and large chunks of the plot are delivered by dialogue that is pure exposition. And don't even get me started on the kills. You see one person stabbed with a knife, you've seen them all. An Ugly from me on this one. Here's hoping Craven bounces back with Scream 4.

New Scream goes retro

Talk about a boring ass day for film news. So boring we're jumping on the poster bandwagon to satisfy fans who crave new news from The Basement on a daily basis.

Below is the new poster for Wes Craven's Scream 4, due in theatres April 15. It's fairly similar to the poster for Scream 3 and keeps the motif started with the first two entries. Why I type all this when you can look at the poster is beyond me.
The film stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, Hayden Panettiere, Britt Robertson and Emma Roberts. We've included the trailer for your viewing pleasure.

Micro Review: A Nightmare on Elm Street (2010)

Slick production values and a capable new incarnation of Freddy Krueger in the form of Jackie Earle Haley can't save this otherwise flat, boring remake Wes Craven's 1984 classic. A prime example of if it ain't broke, don't fix it. What was once a creepy, campy, low-budget excursion into slasher-horror has become just another Hollywood product void of fun, energy and, sadly, scares. Rooney Mara may look good, but her Nancy lacks any of the charm Heather Langenkamp brought to the role. The other characters are just as lifeless as the corpses Freddy leaves in his wake. A Bad review from this Basement dweller.

Guest Review: "A Nightmare on Elm Street"

Since Wes Craven's "My Soul to Take" premiered last night, Mike S thought we would watch and review the Samuel Bayer directed "re-imagining" of the classic Wes Craven's "A Nightmare on Elm Street":

"This is a slicker looking version of Wes Craven's Nightmare... and not much more.

If you've seen the original, you'll be able to easily predict much of the events that happen, and the roles that the various characters fulfill. For a "reimagining", there really isn't that much imagination in this film.

Jackie Earle Haley does a decent job of portraying Freddy Krueger, but lacked that magic that Robert Eglund had. He just seems to be going through the paces of getting revenge- rather than enjoying the torment he was inflicting.

The characters are pretty flat, and rather bland. Even Nancy, the heroine, was simplistic and interchangable with pretty much any other character in the movie.

The one really nice touch I appreciated was the fleshing out of how the characters fit into Krueger's need for revenge.

For looks, this movie is pretty good, but for everything else, I'll take Wes Craven's original, and rate this one as Bad."

"My Soul to Take"- Wes Craven in 3D

Wes Craven returns to the horror genre with "My Soul to Take", and follows other big name directors by going 3D.  Will it take your breath away, or will it wind up be souless eye candy?  You'll be able to find out for yourself since this movie opens tonight in theatres.

Seven people born on the same day as a serial killer was killed.  A sleepy little town sixteen years after the killers death.  People vanishing.  Is it the killer... or someone else?

The trailer looks like this movie has potential- and Wes Craven has always had a solid understanding of the horror genre, having done "Nightmare on Elm Street", and "Scream".  All we can hope is that he's not simply trying to cash in on the 3D technology that's out there.

Check out this trailer and let us know what you think.

Trailer Alert: My Soul To Take

Remember Wes Craven? The guy who created the original A Nightmare On Elm Street, The Hills Have Eyes and The Last House On the Left? How about Scream?

Well, he's back.

My Soul To Take features an overused plot about a serial killer coming back from the dead. There's a lot of expository dialogue, and everything feels a bit flat.Granted, but it's Craven so there will be a couple of good scares. And the imagery is nice. We'll know more once the film opens in October.

In 3D you say? Well, maybe we'll rent it instead.

Check out the trailer and judge for yourself.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Ghostface

It's been a sucky couple of weeks for film news. The Comic Con has really dominated the geek front for the last week or so and what's the point on regurgitating panel discussion from other film sites when we weren't even at the con?

There is no point.

Besides, Shawn's been on holiday and learning all the cool new things we need to know to host our radio show. We've also started putting together ads to run on 92.5FM The X. Hopefully we can figure out a way to demo them for you here on the blog.

I've been busy at work too, which is my excuse for not providing regular updates here.

Anywho, enough blabbing. Here's a behind-the-scenes still from Scream IV, which is currently shooting . . . somewhere. In it we see the now famous killer in all his Halloween costume glory.

The film stars eve Campbell, David Arquette, Courteney Cox, Emma Roberts, Hayden Panettiere, Rory Culkin, Nico Tortorella, Anthony Anderson, Marielle Jaffe, Adam Brody, Marley Shelton, Erik Knudsen, Mary McDonnell, and Alison Brie. It's set for release April 15, 2011.

I don't know if I really care about another Scream movie, even with Wes Craven at the helm. Then again I enjoyed the first three so why bitch? Any thoughts?
