Harry Potter director buys rights to Troll Hunter remake

Even before the film is released in the U.S. some A-hole American director has to go and buy the remake rights for alleged-to-be-brilliant Norwegian horror film Troll Hunter.

And by alleged I mean Shawn and I have yet to see the critically praised film and by A-hole American director I mean Chris Columbus, who is likely a very nice person. However, Columbus has been stated as saying on the Interwebs that he wants to introduce International audiences to this amazing film by remaking it.

I've got a great idea Chris, why not distribute the original film to a mass audience instead? Oh right. Sorry. I forgot. Mainstream audiences don't like to read subtitles. Silly me.

Columbus's 1492 Pictures will produce the film. We in The Basement intend to get a copy of the original Troll Hunter and review it early next season, therefor negating the need to watch the U.S. version unless we so desire.

Here's the preview for Troll Hunter.

New website, trailer for Troll Hunter

This is a movie we in The Basement want to see NOW!!! We've been buzzing about Troll Hunter for some time, but have yet to track down a copy of the Norwegian film. There was an almost moment, but it quickly passed.

Now Magnolia Pictures have acquired the film for a North American release and put up a website, which promises Troll Hunter is coming soon. But soon is not soon enough, if you know what I know what I know.

There's also a new trailer, which we have included below. Because we know movie geeks never get enough of trailers. I know Shawn and I don't . . . even though they often tell us lies.

Here's hoping Troll Hunter ends up being as much fun as it looks. We will keep you updated on its pending release as details come in.

And now the preview:

Trolls are real, m'kay. The Norwegians have proof.

For some reason horror and the fake documentary seem a good fit. The subgenre exploded onto the scene in 1999 with The Blair Witch Project and has been alive and well as of late with Cloverfield, Paranormal Activity and The Last Exorcism, which Shawn and I have yet to see.

Now the Norwegians are getting into the game with their film Troll Hunter (Trolljegeren) and wow does it look like fun. The film is a "documentary" about a group of students who discover what they believe is a government conspiracy to keep the existence of trolls in the north of Norway hidden from the general public. Much running, screaming and smashing ensues. We like smashing here in The Basement.

Troll Hunter opens in Norway on Oct. 29, and Shawn and I promise to acquire a copy as soon as possible and get you a review.
