The second annual Target Presents Variety's Power of Youth event will take place in Los Angeles on Saturday, Oct. 4, at L.A. Live to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
The event is kicking off Monday with the official announcement by several Power of Youth ambassadors, including the Jonas Brothers, Miranda Cosgrove and Angus T. Jones, at a special gathering at the facility.
Those stars, along with
Hilary Duff, Miley Cyrus, Dakota and Elle Fanning, Demi Lovato, Corbin Bleu, Eliza Dushku, Olivia Thirlby, Ashley Tisdale and Emma Roberts, will take part in the fall event. Patients from St. Jude and their families will attend an afternoon of live performances, food stations, interactive games and activities. There will also be a public online charity auction.
A limited number of benefit tickets will be available to the public.
"Target Presents Variety's Power of Youth campaign is a powerful one which has the opportunity to generate millions of dollars and create a bedrock of social awareness within the next generation of entertainment," said Brian Gott, Variety associate publisher.
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, founded by Danny Thomas, is the nation's leading children's cancer research and treatment hospital and the only one that covers all of the costs for medicine, treatment, food, travel and lodging.
"Our partnership educates and encourages young individuals to take action in their community," said Laysha Ward, VP of community relations for Target. Target House represents an innovative approach to long-term housing for families whose children are receiving treatment at the hospital. Funded by Target and its vendor and celebrity partner contributions, Target House features 96 apartment suites that are free of charge to families of children whose treatment requires that they be in Memphis for at least 90 days.
The Variety's Power of Youth initiative was launched last year in conjunction with the Youth Impact Report, an editorial look at the top young talent in Hollywood today.
Variety's Power of Youth has raised more than $600,000 to date in support of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
