Alexander Siddig Opens up About 'Star Trek: Deep Space Nine' and Joining 'Primeval'
In May 2010, Alexander Siddig talked to UGO about what it was like after the series ended:
You know, I got over the whole cool stage of trying to pretend I hadn’t anything to do with it and acting like 'sci-fi sucks,' which I immediately went to when I finished the show. Because I was blasé, I needed to distance myself from it to get a career going. But I grew up there; literally from my mid-twenties to my early thirties and it’s home. And I still do, anytime there’s a show that reminds me of it, in structure – I’m doing a fantasy show right now with dinosaurs only because it’s a similar kind of thing, because it’s relaxed so I’m doing two seasons worth of being sort of one of their guys on one of their shows.The dinosaur show Siddig mentions is Primeval, the UK Sci-Fi series about temporal anomalies and dinosaurs on which he has come on board for the upcoming series 4 and 5 as scientist Philip Burton, who will partly own the ARC. Series 4 wrapped not too long ago and series 5 is now currently being filmed.
The actor goes on to talk about joining the series and what he thinks of Sci-Fi shows now:
[...] my son who’s thirteen; everybody actually loves it – it’s a family show but my son who’s thirteen just made a ton of friends at school because I’m doing that show. And I will always have a soft spot, as long as I live, for doing crazy, geeky sci-fi shows. And I hope to goodness that people keep offering me them because I love them.Siddig also opened up about something a bit more personal regarding the development of his Star Trek: Deep Space Nine character, Doctor Julian Bashir, at the time when the powers that be on the show came up with the genetic modification story in the season 5.16 episode Doctor Bashir, I Presume? Siddig wasn't happy with that decision and reacted strongly to it:
I did it the only way that an actor can. I completely destroyed the lines that they gave me regarding the situation. Every time something came up that was to do with being kind of Data-esque - I mean, I couldn’t get away from the fact – I thought I was being a Data, which is what they wanted to do, they wanted to switch the characters from all the shows, which they ended up doing with Voyager -There is so much more the Star Trek actor talks about in that fantastic interview including why the actor changed his name from Siddig El Fadil to Alexander Siddig, and about his recent movie Cairo Time, which is absolutely delightful.
[...]it was a bit cynical at the end of the day. But I just fluffed the lines; well I didn’t fluff them completely I literally pinned the lines on the back of someone’s shoulder once, reading them. I wasn’t bothered even to learn them. I just pinned them around the office as if they were lines needed for daily modification. And they got the message and dropped it kind of.

'Being Human' Star Lenora Crichlow Wants 'Juno' Actress for Annie in US Version
I think it's got be someone who's able to be quite funny accidentally. I think Ellen Page from "Juno" has a lovely way. I think she's very interesting to watch and I think she brings a real naturalism to her roles. I think she'd be brilliant.Interesting casting idea but Montreal actress Meaghan Rath (18 to Life) pictured below has reportedly already been cast in the role of Annie.
SyFy's own version of Being Human has now entered production in Montreal with Sam Witwer (Smallville) as Vampire Aidan, Meaghan Rath as ghost Annie and Sam Huntington (Superman Returns, Fanboys) as werewolf Josh.

Learn When Steven Spielberg's Sci-Fi Series 'Terra Nova' Will Preview Before Airing in the Fall of 2011
One of the most disappointing panel cancellations of San Diego's Comic-Con earlier in the month was that of the Terra Nova panel, the upcoming Steven Spielberg Sci-Fi produced show starring Jason O'Mara (Life on Mars - US version), which I talked about here.
However, news are coming today that FOX will air a preview of the show in May of 2011, probably after the season finale of one of its biggest series (perhaps Fringe or Glee).
This is the new FOX press release for Terra Nova:
The series centers on the Shannon family as they join the tenth pilgrimage of settlers to TERRA NOVA, the first colony of humans in this second chance for civilization. JIM SHANNON (O’Mara), a devoted father with a checkered past, guides his family – wife ELISABETH and children JOSH and MADDY – through this new land of limitless beauty, mystery and terror. In addition to blue skies, rolling rivers and lush vegetation, TERRA NOVA offers new opportunities and fresh beginnings to its recent arrivals, but the Shannons have brought with them a familial secret that may threaten their citizenship in this utopia. Jason O’Mara (“Life on Mars”) has been cast in the lead role of JIM SHANNON, the patriarch of the show’s central family. As previously announced, Emmy Award winner Alex Graves (FRINGE) will direct the pilot, and Emmy Award-winning executive producer and director Jon Cassar (“24”) has joined the series as an executive producer and series director.

TERRA NOVA, an epic family adventure 85 million years in the making, follows an ordinary family embarking on an incredible journey back in time to prehistoric Earth as a small part of a massive experiment to save the human race. In the year 2149 the world is dying. The planet is overdeveloped, overcrowded and overpolluted. Knowing there is no way to reverse the damage to the planet, a coalition of scientists has managed to open up a fracture in the space-time continuum, creating a portal to prehistoric Earth. This doorway leads to an amazing world, one that allows for a last-ditch effort to save the human race…possibly changing the future by correcting the mistakes of the past.

I personally think Terra Nova has potential as a Sci-Fi series, though it may be a bit similar to a few other series on and off air (Land of the Lost, Primeval, Earth 2 just to name a few). Still, I hope they can make it fresh enough so it doesn't feel like a rehash. But I think that with Spielberg attached to it, it has a strong chance of being good and successful.
But my question is will it be one of those series that you guys will want to see?
Comic-Con 2010 Exclusive Story: The 'Chuck' Press Room

A few days ago, I spoke of the Being Human press room and the intimate feeling I got from it, and that it took place in a location a bit away from the craziness of the convention center.
My second press room - NBC's Chuck press junket - however took place in a room close to Ballroom 20 where all these shows (Chuck, Supernatural, The Big Bang Theory, Vampire Diaries, Fringe etc.) held their panels.
And this is where the experience got a bit different for me, and the press rooms became a true crazy press machine.
So Friday morning, I hurriedly went to the Chuck press room. I was a bit nervous that morning because first I had to find the room in that massive place that is the San Diego convention center (which turned out to be easier to find than I first thought), plus I had no idea what was going to wait for me there.
There were definitely quite a few more journalists for Chuck than there had been at the Being Human press junket.
In a medium sized, rectangular room, you would have your television crews all lined up near a Comic-Con "wall" and there would be about ten round tables in the room. Half of them are used by the TV crews to put their things on (electronics, bags, personal belongings and what not), while the other five are used by the written press.
When the cast walked into the room, half of the actors were ushered to the TV crews (i.e. the main stars) while some of the others were ushered to various tables.
The way it works is that ''handlers'' generally take care of ushering the actors from place to place, press line to tables, and vice-versa. The interviewees usually (emphasis on that word) stay about 5 -10 minutes tops at a table, depending on how many they are, and then move on to the next one.
A very busy affair, I unfortunately didn't get to meet up with all the actors. Yvonne Strahovski, who plays super spy Sarah Walker and Chuck's spy handler and girlfriend, didn't even make it to any of the written press tables.
Chuck star Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez - who plays Chuck's best friend Morgan Grimes - only popped up at the very end for about two minutes during our interview time with Adam Baldwin (John Casey) and Mark Christopher Lawrence (Big Mike), because they were simply running out of time and wanted to acknowledge our table (very sweet of them still).
I'm just simply bummed out that the only question we had time to ask them was asked by someone who wanted to know about Zachary Levi's t-shirt. I went (in my head of course, though my eyes may have conveyed it as well): Seriously?!?!?!?! Only question we have time for and you ask that?!?!
The t-shirt will be available from the actor's upcoming clothing company. You can make of that what you will.
However, our table got to talk with Scott Krinsky (Jeff) and Vic Sahay (Lester), Ryan McPartlin (Devon Woodcomb a.k.a. ''Captain Awesome'') and Sarah Lancaster (Ellie Bartowski), and as I just mentioned earlier, with Adam Baldwin and Mark Christopher Lawrence.
Ryan McPartlin and Sarah Lancaster were very sweet and absolutely beautiful. These guys look exactly the same in person as on TV. Everyone does! That is the strange thing. You would guess these people would look better on TV because of makeup and lighting but they don't; I mean they look AS good in person as they do on our small screen - even better in some cases (I'm talking about you, Zachary Quinto!)
Adam Baldwin and Mark Lawrence were also very cool and nice people. Very communicative and interesting. It's funny to think that Adam Baldwin is nothing like his counterpart John Casey, or even (thank God), like his Jayne Cobb character on Firefly. Of course, that's what actors do.
Since I absolutely adore Zachary Levi and Joshua Gomez, not having them at our press tables for serious questions was obviously my biggest disappointment of that press room. And the fact that I didn't get to "meet" them. But I'm hoping for another time.
However I was really happy to meet the famous Jeff and Lester, and to get to ask them about that very famous Blaze of Glory video they did. Vic Sahay "thanked" me personally for that question ha ha!! I, of course, answered that he was welcome. These guys were absolutely funny and great, with Vic Sahay doing most of the talking while Scott Krinsky was pretty much laughing at what Sahay was saying.
Basically all of the actors we met with in the Chuck press room were gracious and nice. And all in all I can say that it certainly was a very interesting experience.
On The Road Filming Begins Today
Happy Monday all! I’m back from my trip and had an absolutely wonderful time. There is nothing in the way of news, I'm beginning to miss Kristen and her steeze but again I'm pleased she is getting some down time away from the paparazzi.
Today marks the first day of On the Road filming, I'm lead to believe Kristen will be filming her part for around 6 weeks so we should look for her to finish around mid September. I’m extremely excited about this project being brought to life and hopefully some fans will manage to snap a few pictures of Kristen in her 1950’s costume.

Guess Which New Supernatural Being Will Appear in True Blood Season 4!
Alan Ball, the awesome mastermind behind HBO's True Blood, revealed this fantastic piece of information regarding the next season of his hit show:
"In season four there will be witches and some of the characters we’ve known all along will have powers that maybe they didn’t even know about," he said. "That’s where it gets fun storytelling-wise because you have so many doors to open."For those who have read the Sookie Stackhouse novels from Charlaine Harris, they already know about witches.
But this statement from Alan Ball has me really hopeful that we'll get to see an important character from the novels called Amelia Broadway, who basically becomes one of Sookie's best friends during the course of the later stories.
Broadway appears in the sixth novel of the series, Definitely Dead, and goes on to play a major role in Sookie's life. Wikipedia has a short entry for the character that you can read here.
Since True Blood has a tendency to differ a bit from the novels, though at the same time follow the major plotlines, I now wonder how soon will Alan Ball work her into the series.
