John Barrowman Confirms the Return of Torchwood

Blogtor Who just posted that John Barrowman confirmed the return of Torchwood in a 13 episode format!!

Blogtor Who has published some pictures and an article from the newest issue of Radio Times. There are some VERY interesting bits of casting for the last 2 episodes that are revealed.

*Spoilers ahead.

Timothy Dalton is confirmed as appearing in The End of Time as a character called the Narrator, according to the Scotsman. Also cast are actresses June Whitfield, Claire Bloom and, this is such exciting news, BRIAN COX!!!!

I was already excited now I’m crazy over the top!!!

According to the Radio Times article we’re also getting an emo Master. Both the Doctor and his mortal enemy, the Master, are entering the final stages of their lives and are dying. None of them wants to go.

Russell T. Davies says: 'It’s personal for the Doctor. The Master is his enemy, his opposite, and yet so tantalisingly close to being his soul mate. There’s something epic about their sheer existence – the last two survivors of an ancient race. It’s a clash of the titans. Both of them heading for death, and yet both determined to survive - at any cost!'

The End of Time also marks the return of Bernard Cribbins as Wilfred Mott and Catherine Tate as Donna Noble. Both of whom will appear to go through important emotional stuff and for them this may be the end.

The finale may have an emo Master, but we, as viewers, will be very emo viewers as well.

Casting News from the Season 5 of Doctor Who

Writer Richard Curtis has announced who will play Vincent Van Gogh in the upcoming episode he is writing for the season 5 of Doctor Who.

The actor who will play the famous painter is Tony Curran. Most people may remember him as Marcus, the Vampire leader and antagonist of the movie Underworld 2.

I find this bit of casting very interesting. Especially since there is a certain resemblance between the actor and Van Gogh. I'm very excited about the upcoming season 5, though I mourn the loss of David Tennant deeply.

According to Digital Spy, the final episodes of the Davies-Tennant era of Doctor Who will air during Christmas Day at 7:30PM on BBC One and New Years Day again at 7:30PM on BBC One.

New Picture of the Doctor and Wilfred from The End of Time

Den of Geek has gotten their hands on a brand new BBC picture from one of the 2 parts of Doctor Who: the End of Time. This is what they had to say:

The BBC has released this morning another shot from the Christmas Doctor Who specials, The End Of Time. At first glance, it's the marvellous Bernard Cribbins alongside David Tennant in a quiet street (albeit looking a little startled).
But look a bit closer. That book that the Doctor is holding is called Fighting The Future, by Joshua Naismith. Joshua Naismith is a character in The End Of Time, being played by David Harewood (he's in the trailer for the episode).
How about a bit more, though? Remember the bus in Planet Of The Dead earlier in this year? It had an advert on the side of it. Remember who that advert was for? It was for a telecommunications company Neon by Naismith. The plot thickens.
We'll leave you to connect some of those dots together....!

The plot thickens indeed! Seems everything is related together and is bringing our beloved Tenth Doctor inexorably to his end.

I just read in the always excellent Life Doctor Who & Combom that the Eleventh Doctor will first meet his new companion as a child and then he will travel forward in her timeline to take her as his companion.

The SUN has even published the picture of the young girl who will play Amy as a child. It is 9 year old Caitlin Blackwood, who also happens to be Karen Gillan's cousin.

Greg Grunberg as a Red Shirt on the Next Star Trek?

In an interview given to Newsarama.com JJ Abrams talked about his best friend, Heroes's Greg Grunberg, who had a cameo in the first Star Trek movie as Jim Kirk's uncle's voice (it's simpler than it sounds) during the car chase sequence.

I actually tried to get him to be in the movie originally and he was unavailable, but having Greg as a red shirt would be my favorite thing in the world, actually. [laughs]

The idea of having Greg Grunberg as a Red shirt is hilarious to me. Life expectancy for these Star Trek characters is notoriously short as they tend to DIE. It's part of one of those great Star Trek mythos.

Doctor Who: The End of Time - 3 Minute Clip!

This clip was shown earlier today on the UK TV program Children in Need.

*SPOILERS BELOW

The light silly mood of the beginning of the clip is quite a contrast to the ending of The Waters of Mars. It appears that the Doctor has done quite a bit of travelling and has gone into trouble in between specials, running away from his fate.

The most shocking revelation comes when the Doctor tells Ood Sigma that he got married to Good Queen Bess (Queen Elizabeth the First and this probably explains why she knew him at the end of Season 3 episode 2 The Shakespeare Code while he didn't), that he slept with her and the she was no longer the Virgin Queen! Haha!!

Ahhhh Russel T. Davies.

More Khan Stories Concerning the Star Trek Sequel

There are still many talks and speculations about whether or not Khan will appear in the Star Trek sequel. If it’s not in the next one, maybe in the one after that, or the one after that. One thing for sure is that it seems inevitable that this fan favourite should and will appear.

JJ Abrams does not reject the idea of having Khan in a future movie at all.

But who would play Khan Noonien Singh?

He was originally played by the late great Ricardo Montalban, who brought dash and flair to Captain Kirk’s greatest Nemesis. The Lex Luthor to his Superman, the Magneto to his Professor X, the Master to his Doctor– you get the picture. Montalban’s Khan first appeared in the Original series episode ''Space Seed'' on board a ship called the Botany Bay, and the character was brought back years late in the second Trek motion picture Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan.

The chances of having Khan in a new Trek movie appear to be half and half. An interesting tidbit that Trek Movie reports is:

And if you listen to the commentary on the Star Trek DVD and Blu-ray, producer Damon Lindelof states that they did consider putting in one of those ‘after the credits’ scenes that would have shown the Botany Bay floating in space; something Bob Orci has also talked about here at TrekMovie.com. Bob has made it clear that even though the new film sets out a new timeline, many things from the ‘prime timeline’ are still intact, including the Botany Bay.

I believe that had that scene been added in the movie, Star Trek fans everywhere would have gone completely nuts – with the un-initiated staring blankly at the screen.

Recently io9 published a story claiming Nestor Carbonell may be playing the legendary character, a story that was debunked by TrekMovie: And for this week’s rumors, a trusted source tells TrekMovie that discussions of Carbonell being on some sort of short list is "total BS." Sources do confirm that Khan is still a possibility for the film, but that is not anything new.

However, again the favourite actor to play Khan seems to be spanish actor Javier Bardem, who is better known for his No Country for Old Men movie role here in North America.

One thing for sure is that if Khan is to be in a future Star Trek movie, they need a strong actor in the role. Javier Bardem would certainly fit the bill. For now, since nothing is known about the sequel yet, it is all conjecture.

Daniel Radcliffe Lending His Voice for "The Simpsons"

This was a wish he had for a long time and is finally here, Daniel will be lending his voice for one particular upcoming episode of "The Simpsons".
Executive producer Al Jean has revealed that the "Harry Potter" star will take part in a "Twilight" parody as part of the next "Treehouse of Horror XXI" episode.

"Daniel was very excited to do The Simpsons," Jean shared, "and we kept trying to ask him for secrets from the upcoming 'Harry Potter' movie until we realized that they were all in the books." It is further explained that the 20-year-old will provide voice to a kid vampire character named Edmund whom Lisa falls for in the episode to be aired in fall 2010. The segment will see Edmund's father, Dracula, and Homer try to pull the two apart.

Torchwood Season 4 is a GO!

It seems that Torchwood 4 is a go and that we will have to wait until january in order to know in which format it will come back - will it be as a regular thirteen episode series or will it be a five episode event like Children of Earth was.

None the less, it seems the series is indeed a go.

In a recent TV Guide Magazine interview with Russel T. Davies, the former Doctor Who showrunner, but still Torchwood boss, has revealed that “The recession has hit British television, but fingers crossed, it will be a go. We expect things to start to move in January. We’ve got great ideas for the show. I think there’s a further lease on life for many years to come, but certainly for a [fourth season].”

Den of Geek goes further by claiming that Davies: knows exactly where everything will pick up, too. He admits that he already knows where Gwen, Rhys, their baby and Jack are, and what shape Torchwood itself would actually take (which is a big unresolved issue in itself).

Of all the original Torchwood cast members only Captain Jack Harkness and Gwen Cooper are left. Question is, who will be filling the rest of the team?

Den of Geek is on a roll for me today. They just released their list of top 10 Star Trek Enterprise Episodes.

You can view the list, and their reasons why, here.

It includes episodes with Klingons, Borgs, TOS clad Enterprise members, the return of Brent Spiner as Arik Soong (Data's creator Noonien Soong's grandfather) and Augments, Mirror Universes, Orion slave girls, Riker and Troi and more!!

Some people may actually scream at the choice of ''These are the Voyages'' (s4,ep22) as being in the top 10 but I myself really liked the episode (besides the fact that we learn that fan favourite Charles 'Trip' Tucker was going to bite the bullet on a mission in a few years, before the creation of the Federation when this episode takes place, on the Holodeck 100s years in the future - confusing no? Haha). I enjoyed seeing Riker and Troi again and the use of the holodeck to convey the story.

First Pic of David Tennant from The End of Time!

Digital Spy published the first official picture of David Tennant as the Tenth Doctor from ''The End of Time''.

The picture is rather dark and casts the Doctor and the Tardis in quite a lot of shadows with a bit of light streaming on his face. It serves to emphasize the theme of loneliness as well as the fact that the Doctor is coming toward the end of his life. It's rather full of sadness as well as foreboding I think.

Stephen Moffat on the Next Series of Doctor Who

New Doctor Who showrunner Steven Moffat gave one of his first real interviews about the upcoming new series with Matt Smith as Doctor number Eleven at the annual Screenwriters' Festival in Cheltenham.

Some of the highlights from the interview are:

• About the TARDIS, Stephen Moffat confesses to a partiality to the Peter Cushing TARDIS
• He refutes that his stories are darker than Russel T. Davies's pointing out that ''Midnight'' was much darker than anything he has ever written on Doctor Who.
• SM says that Doctor Who is a show for kids and that this is where the 1996 movie erred.
• SM says he's writing the show for himself, and that writing Doctor Who is challenging because it's a mix of different genres.
• He will write a total of six episodes out of thirteen.
• About the casting of Matt Smith, SM again talked about the fact that they were actually looking for a man in his mid-30s to 40s and that Smith, the third to audition, was the perfect guy despite his 26 years.
• He describes Smith's Doctor as: "He’s the best one of course! In a new, different, strange way. Considering he’s so young he comes across as surprisingly ancient. He’s not going to be the youthful doctor that people might expect – he’s a proper grown-up. The Doctor has to be played not just by someone with great acting ability but someone who you can’t take your eyes off and you can’t take your eyes off Matt Smith when he walks into a room. His presence just screams ‘alpha male’ – but in a really odd way. If he walked through here now you would immediately get it. He walks like a drunk giraffe!"
• SM also iterates that the role of the companion is pivotal as the story happens to the companion and not the Doctor.
• His biggest challenge is always writing the next story and at the moment it was the finale.

It's definitely Doctor Who Season.

With The Sarah Jane Adventures episode ''The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith'' having just aired last week in the UK on BBC One and the first of the last three Tennant Doctor Who specials ''The Waters of Mars'' coming up in less than two weeks, we are being bombarded with new Doctor Who material. Which makes this little blogger rather happy and sad all at once I have to say

Over at Den of Geek we have pictures of Gadget, ''a sexy new robot who likes to get in on all the action''. Their words, not mine.

Den of Geek also calls the episode ''the scary-as-hell finale opener''. While over at Bleeding Cool (the article is a mildly spoilery review which you can read here) Rich Johnston calls the episode: ''Definitely one of the best episodes ever. I mean top ten. Seriously''.

The Daily Mail Online reports that the:

Doctor Who special The Waters of Mars is ‘one of the scariest’ according to star David Tennant.

The forthcoming special which sees the Timelord arrive on Mars in 2059 and battle terrifying zombie like aliens.

Viewers will see the Doctor meet the first human colony of people living on Mars, facing a battle to save them from a parasitic virus that makes them spurt water.

The episode, which will broadcast on BBC1 on November 15, also shows him facing a moral dilemma about whether to condemn people to their fate or save them and ultimately change the future.

Lindsay Duncan stars as Adelaide, commander of the colony. Tennant, 38, said the special was ‘probably one of the scariest’ yet.

He added: ‘It tells a different story. It is a long time into the episode before the Doctor takes control. We expect him to know [what to do] and take control earlier. It is a long time before he does it.’

Russell T Davies dismissed the suggestion the drama could be too scary for children, and insisted that it was still aimed primarily at the family audience.

Daniel Radcliffe narrates 'HMD 2010: The Legacy of Hope'

Daniel has recorded the narration for the 2010 Holocaust Memorial Day short film Legacy of Hope. The Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) is the international day of remembrance in the UK for the victims of the Holocaust and of other genocides.


Dan has this to say about his participation in this proejct:

"When I was approached to narrate this short film, The Legacy of Hope, I felt very privileged. I felt that in a very small way I was contributing to the remembrance of these tragic and horrendous events, whilst also commemorating all those people who refused to let the horrors they had lived through dictate the tone of the rest of their lives.

The surest shield we have against future atrocities is our knowledge and our emotional understanding of what has happened in the past. The chance to help the vital work done by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust could not be turned down."

Carly Whyborn, Chief Executive Officer, Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, said this about Dan's participation in this project:

“We are delighted that Daniel Radcliffe is once again lending his support to HMD. With this year's theme - The Legacy of Hope – it is entirely fitting that Daniel, who is so well known amongst younger audiences, has narrated our film, which will be shown at HMD events across the UK.
